Target speech and language goals with money! Learn about money vocabulary, idioms, problem solving, and more with this no-prep mini packet of activities!

Target the following skills using 6 grab-and-go worksheets and 30 task cards!

  • Describing: use the graphic organizer to describe and understand a variety of currency

  • Comparing and contrasting: use the graphic organizer to compare and contrast physical money or other payment methods (i.e. credit cards, checks, etc.)! Whether it is dimes vs. nickels, dollars vs. euros, or pounds vs. yen, encourage students to explore the characteristics that are similar and different between several types of money - if you don’t have any money on hand, you can always search for images on google!

  • Idioms: use context clues to figure out the meaning of six money-related idioms; then have students come up with their own examples!

  • Vocabulary: read definitions and answer questions about ten money-related terms; then use the definitions to write a sentence for each word

  • Problem-solving: work through ten problem solving scenarios with a graphic organizer for identifying the problem, coming up with three possible solutions, exploring the pros and cons of each solution, and explaining the reason for choosing a certain solution

  • Conversation topics: respond to ten conversation questions regarding saving and spending money; have students keep the conversation going by asking questions and making comments on the topic

This ultra-functional resource was created for high school speech and language students, but it would also be a great activity for middle school students and/or students in lifeskills classes!
